GC- LAUMUN 2006 and 2007 Two Success Stories

From the 14th of January till the 11th of March, 2006, the LAU MUN student secretariat trained more than 600 high school students and school advisors representing 77 schools from all across Lebanon. The 7 training-session program implemented the Global Classrooms methodology in teaching the necessary skills for a Model United Nations simulation. Students have successfully engaged in activities on campus that helped in the formation of their character and leadership, much needed for their careers and interactions in their communities at large. On the 8th and 9th of April, 541 students attended the 1st National High School Conference held at LAU, Beirut. Students became ambassadors of their assigned countries representing their points of view when formulating final resolutions in 6 different UN committees. In the closing ceremony at UNESCO palace, high achievers were rewarded for their excellence in representing their country objectively according to UN rules of procedure. Other students were also rewarded for their position paper writing skills.

GC-LAUMUN 2007 POWER OF ARGUMENT, NOT ARGUMENT OF POWER seek to build a culture of peaceful conflict resolution by offering the alternative of peaceful and critical debate against what Lebanon has seen from violent power struggles. Participants build a better understanding of their individual contexts in Lebanese and global societies which helped them believe in their power to change by channeling their acquired skills in finding real solutions addressing real problems of their society.
